SYNOPSIS:
Lilia Herriton (Helen Mirren), a wealthy Edwardian widow, impulsively travels to Tuscany where she falls in love and marries a handsome but impoverished Italian dentist, much to the horror of her upper-class English in-laws. When Lilia tragically dies in childbirth, her family in England—led by the rigid Harriet (Judy Davis) and the idealistic Philip (Rupert Graves)—embark on a mission to Italy to "rescue" the baby and secure his custody. However, the warm Tuscan sun and the complexities of human emotion prove to be more than their strict English manners can handle.
