Marmots spend the summer eating nonstop to build up fat for hibernation, which is less like sleep and more like a dangerous emergency state. They must periodically wake up to get real sleep in order to survive. Ibex also have remarkable winter strategies: despite living high in the mountains, they avoid snow and let their body temperature drop drastically at night to conserve energy—something fatal for most animals, but essential for their survival. ????⛰️????

The film tells these and other surprising winter stories with spectacular imagery, from dramatic aerial shots to scenes filmed beneath the ice. When spring finally arrives, chamois celebrate with energetic leaps, while marmots waste no time—males may even mate with females before they fully wake up, as their short summer is just preparation for the next harsh winter in Grisons.
