(Nigerian Music) Fela Kuti is arguably Nigeria's, even Africa's, most famous musician... but his albums would be nothing without their iconic and memorable artwork - done by one of the world's most famous album artwork designers, Nigerian artist - Ghariokwu Lemi!

"Working with Fela - it's divine, I feel divine - I feel so fulfilled," says Ghariokwu Lemi.

Ghariokwu Lemi has designed almost all of Fela's album covers and many other international artists, with his style and work attracting much attention in the West.

(Nigerian Music) BattaBox interviews the artist behind some of music's most famous covers: Ghariokwu Lemi!

Ghariokwu is most famous for his work with Fela over three decades from 1974 to 1993 and many of his covers hang on the wall of his studio in Lagos.

"Zombie was a very controversial album Fela released in 1976 that he sung to disparage the military in Nigeria," explains Ghariokwu.

But one of his favorite and most popular album covers is 'Yellow Fever' - a cover showing two half-naked women made to disparage African women who bleach their skin.

"Sometimes I look in the sky proverbialy and ask Fela where you dey? Come and see now," says Ghariokwu.

Ghariokwu is also having something of a renaissance with his new work in the last few years called 'Afro Pop' that is a new style and finding favour on the world art market.

But as he paints a logo for BattaBox - he jokingly explains that our name is spelt from by our Oyinbo founder ... it should be 'BataBox'!

And then with each piece of work he signs his name: "When I sign I put my surname first as an artist I try to be creative - Lemi Ghariokwu."
