What are the new UK migration rules announced today?
.
.
The home secretary has announced reforms to the immigration system which she says are based on “fairness” and an expectation “that everyone is playing their part”.
Shabana Mahmood revealed that foreign care workers who earn at least £25,000 a year will have to wait five years for permanent settlement in the UK.
This is a dilution of her original plans to make migrant care workers wait 15 years, after criticism from senior Labour figures including Angela Rayner.
Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp described the announcement as “a U-turn” and claimed it would cost the taxpayer £10 billion.
